Messenger RNA (mRNA)
The working copy of a gene that a cell reads to build a protein.
Messenger RNA is the intermediate copy of a gene. DNA is transcribed into messenger RNA, which is then read by ribosomes to assemble a protein.
Most oligonucleotide medicines act on messenger RNA, either destroying it, reshaping how it is assembled, or, in the case of mRNA therapeutics, supplying it directly.
