GC content
The percentage of an oligo's bases that are guanine or cytosine, a strong influence on binding strength.
GC content is the fraction of an oligo's bases that are guanine or cytosine. Because G and C pair with three hydrogen bonds rather than two, higher GC content generally raises melting temperature and binding stability.
Balanced GC content, usually around forty to sixty percent, is a common target in primer and probe design.
